Artist Statement
“Kintsugi” (Golden Joinery) is the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken pottery using lacquer with oxide and pigments dating back to the 1300s.
I’m embodies the Wabi-Sabi philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection.
Artist note: I have been inspired by this philosophy for roughly 40 years of making pottery. I have lost some special pieces over the years and it has become the old cliche, “if I knew then what I know now”.
Kintsugi has opened up a whole new exciting world to me. Pottery is never broken, a metaphor for life.
