About the show
Misty watercolour memories are a series of 24 pocket sized watercolours at 125mmx750mm hung in a grid, that were made in my local area at Botany Bay. Created around the time of the covid lockdowns during some of the 1hr outside time in the local LGA at Bayside and 5km radius walks, that continued through to the time people mingled more freely. As a humorous take from that surreal time, dislocating community, and looking back at it now as a distant memory this work has been aptly paired with the lyrics from the famous song by Barbra Streisand.
I am showing in this Katoomba gallery run by community who I have shared memories with, in both life and the art community, having studied together at University of Western Sydney Art School in times past, also making galleries and shows together that brought people together from many communities world-wide.
In reflection I see that Art can be a binder in the joy of creating discussions memories and communities.
Rebecca has recently shown at Hazlehurst Gallery, and is a member of Mount Omei Gallery Casula and shown there. And participated in art residencies at Fowlers Gap and Bundanoon.
The Way We Were Lyrics
Memories
Light the corners of my mind
Misty watercolor memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time rewritten every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we?
Could we?
Memories
May be beautiful and yet
What’s too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it’s the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember
The way we were
The way we were
